Goldilocks had the right idea when she chose the bed that wasn’t “Too Soft” or “Too Hard” but was “Just Right”. Picking the right mattress isn’t easy, with so many different varieties and types it can be overwhelming. By following our 4 step formula you will be able to have a good night rest and protect you spine!
- Your mattress needs to be able to support you, to be able to support you for 8 hours every night. Keep in mind that there are heavier and wider parts of your body that will be to be supported, such as your lumbar spine and pelvis. You don’t want to sink completely into the mattress and you don’t want a mattress thats as hard an concert. This will help maintain the spines’ natural curves.
- If you are sharing a bed, take your partner shopping with you! You both want to make sure that neither of you roll into the middle. When mattress shopping you want to make sure that you take your time. try and spend at least ten minutes lying on the mattress. Roll over in it this will this will give you a good indication of how good the bed is for you. If it hurts your shoulders rolling over then the mattress is too firm.
- Picking the right type of mattress. There are three main types of materials that makes up mattresses.
- Spring- this is the mattress made up of a series of springs. these are the most common and most affordable. However not the best type of investment. Because they are fairly light any movement on the mattress is likely to be felt. the coils also wear out quickly, loosing the support they give you fairly fast.
- memory foam; memory foam type of foam allows you to sink into it and feel your weight absorbed, taking pressure off your joints and increasing circulation. Memory foam is known for its high levels of comfort and support, but it can make you heat up and is often made using harsh chemicals.
- Latex- Latex moulds to your own body shape. Latex is made up of more health materials, however can be more firm then memory foam but will last longer.
4. Take advantage of the take home and try for 30 days offer that some mattress shops have. This allows you to use it and see if it really is right for you
When was the last time you shopped for a new bed? Is it time for you to make like Goldilocks and try to find one that’s “Just Right?”
